Wow. First Kami-Kaz Matsui, then this. 5 players? Is there some award for 'worst moves during an offseason' that their GM is competing for?
Eh, well, this isn't really a bad move. It does make them better for 2008....but, not long-term. Luke Scott was going to be traded no matter what, thanks to the bad move of acquiring Michael Bourn to start (), Costanzo was a piece of that other bad move...Sarfate, Albers, and Patton are legitimate pitchers, though...Eh, I'd call it good for the Orioles, eh for the Astros...certainly nowhere near as a bad as that Matsui signing.
This was surprising.. I'm a huge Astros fan...and some of these moves really had me thinking.
Really like Troy Patton, he was our next 'future ace' but that looks like that's all gone now, for a 31 year old shortstop.
Either Ed Wade is a genius, or he's just setting us up for a long future of losing seasons.:confused:
I'll tell you this much... Ed Wade is far from a genius.
Not a Bad Trade, He Can be a Fantastic Player but I have not seen much of him in the last 2 seasons
That's because he's slowing down and aging.
This is way worse than the Matsui deal! At least in that deal, all they lost was MONEY & they did "need" a 2B since Biggio's retirement(& there apparent lack of confidence in Burke).Quote:

Here they lose their #3 & #4 best pitching prospects plus a decent reliever, not to mention Scott (good 4th outfielder) & Constanzo for a declining SS.
Especially for a club who have Wandy Rodriguez & Woody Williams as their #2 & #3.....
Burke is exactly the reason they didn't need a second basemen. A lack of confidence in a guy who has shown to at least be as good as Kaz Matsui does not create a NEED for a second basemen, particularly a poor player like Matsui.
Scott should not have been their fourth outfielder, that's the thing. Bad moves like getting Michael Bourn to start made it so Scott had to be traded.Quote:

Tejada is still a good hitter. He was hampered by injury this year, but still put up a .296/.357/.442 line, which is very good from a shortstop. Move him to the NL and a park that really favors right-handed hitters, and Tejada is going to have some pretty numbers this year.
For evidence of what Houston's park does for a right-handed pull hitter's power numbers - Craig Biggio. 2004, 18 homers home, 6 away. 2005, 19 homers home, 7 away. 2006, 15 home, 6 away.
Tejada improves their team slightly in the present time. The knock on the deal is that it decreases their future viability.
The Matsui deal...makes them worse both now and in the future.
pence, berkman, lee and tejada in the 3-4-5-6 spots will scare some folks for a cpla years. It better, cuz we gonna have to score 12-15 runs a game to win anything. crawford boxes will prop up tejada's power numbers for a couple of years then he'll ask 20+ mil to re-sign at 33. It's not like we have someone being groomed in the minors to take over when that happens. We'll just have a totally depleted minor league system and nothing to show for it except that Uncle Drayton will get away with raising ticket prices yet again for a couple more years.
Ed wade is supposed to be about pitching speed defense and rebuilding the minors....right
Too bad they won't have many guys on base to drive in...
You know, with Kaz Matsui and Michael Bourn hitting in front of them.
Mediocre relief pitchers, speed, and defense, really. He's a bad GM.Quote:

Being a Phillies fan, I know how Ed Wade sucks...He wanted to trade Ryan Howard to the Pirates for Kris Benson but the Pirates declined it...I don't know who's the bigger idiot..
As a Cardinal fan, all I can say about the Tejada deal is.... great for the Cards!
Yes,it will be "bad" for the Cardinals in 2008/9 as Tejeda will still be an active force with the bat - but great down the road for the Cards as basically the Astros have traded away in 2 deals (remember the Rockies deal for Jennings) their whole minor system.Kick in the fact that they didn't sign any 1st rounders in the last 2 years & they also traded Lidge for basically nothing (as Constanza was part of the Baltimore deal).
Considering, the fact that Pitching (even Minor league level) is at a premium high this deal is way worse, than the Matsui deal.Tejeda's numbers have declined dramatically in the last 2 years (power wise & defensively).Coupled that with the fact the whole Houston defense is now a liability & Tejeda is guaranteed 26 million the WHOLE Central will be happy long term wise!
Cub fans are happy, now if only the Padres would sign Prior, so the Astros, Brewers or Cards don't sign him.
