• The Twins and Angels continue to talk about a Johan Santana trade. Many of the same players mentioned in the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes -- Howie Kendrick, Brandan Wood, Nick Adenhart, and possibly Jeff Mathis or Reggie Willits -- would be included in a package for Santana.
• It is believed that the Angels haven't talked with the Marlins since last night, and Miguel Cabrera is off their radar screen -- at least for now.

6:20 p.m., from Peter Gammons
• The Tigers have won the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes. Detroit will get Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from Florida for six players -- Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and three minor league pitching prospects. The deal is expected to be announced later tonight when the physicals and paperwork are completed.
Well the Tigers rocket up right next to Cleveland.
That could be a real mean starting rotation: Bonderman, Verlander, Willis. And if Cabrera can control his weight and play like 2 years ago, they'll score some runs.
Hopefully Willis does better than he did last year though.
There's word that he isQuote:
And if Cabrera can control his weight
He's played exactly the same for 3 straight years, so I'm not sure what you mean by "play like 2 years ago." The only difference between him 2 years ago and him now is that he walks a little more. Look at his lines from the past three years:Quote:
and play like 2 years ago, they'll score some runs.

.339/.430/.568
.320/.401/.565
That is remarkable consistency at a phenomenal level. Moving him out of a pitcher's park should even improve his numbers.
Yeah his hitting number haven't changed but I believe that added weight last year hurt his range at 3rd and it definitely slowed him on the base paths.
I don't think it's enough to really cost his team any runs. Really slow or just plain slow, Cabrera improves the Tigers run-scoring immensely (as if they needed it, being 3rd in the majors and all in 2007)
He sure does

this just in the Joint Chiefs of Staff and President Bush have declared the Boston Redsox part of the Axis of Evil...
Are you saying the Red Sox are so good that only direct military intervention can stop them ? I guess so.
