Re: barry mad at hall of fame
Can't wait to see the look on the guy who gets commissioned to recreate a lifesize bust of Bonds....
Hey Barry - you can't get in the Hall for at least 5 years even if you hang'em up today - and ALOT can happen in 5 years.....
Worry about the Hall when you're eligible - and not before then.....
Re: barry mad at hall of fame
you know, he actually said something like that himself...

Re: barry mad at hall of fame
I personally don't blame Barry for anything he did. There is no significant difference between steroids and other performance enhancers such as Tommy John Surgery. Nor is there any evidence that Bonds did take steroids (merely rumors and hearsay). He's justified in being angry that his ball has an asterisk on it.
This whole anti-steroids crusade is nothing more than cover for the media's longtime hatred of Barry Bonds (a hatred which is due to the fact that Barry doesn't suck up to them like all the other players, as Barry sees most of the media for the fools and crooks they are). Nobody complained about steroids until Bonds broke the home run record of the beloved Mark McGwire, nor should anybody have complained. These steroids may improve one's health in the long run, so it is a good thing that a portion of the population is willing to test them to allow others to see if they are safe, which is why steroid use should just be legalized and which supplements each player is on listed in the media guides (to make it easier for people considering taking steroids to know what to take). By the same logic that the anti-steroid crusaders use, penicillin should have been banned because it artificially expanded lifespans (of course, many of the anti-steroid crusaders also support the FDA's policy of preventing people who are terminally ill from taking potentially life-saving drugs).
Bonds deserves to be elected to the Hall of Fame on the first ballot with a vote total over 95%. He is, at the very least, the greatest player since Ruth, if not the greatest player of all time.
Re: barry mad at hall of fame
Wow...ummm...you are medically so far off the mark, it's ridiculous.
If steroids indeed improved quality of life, every doctor on Earth would be pushing to be first in line to sell them (at exorbitant rates, of course) to every person in the world. And governments would LET them, for the sake of the 'free market'. They are NOT beneficial in the long term. Short term, yes...long term, no. They cause massive problems in joints, not to mention the same sorts organ damage associated with things like HGH and extreme Creatine abuse. The only person who has ever claimed that roids are good for you is Jose Canseco...and he's a blithering idiot, to be charitable.
I DO agree that it's laughable the degree to which some current players have been allowed to skate on this issue (I'm not counting McGwire, because he isn't still playing). You don't see Sosa and Sheffield (and yeah, he HAS been mentioned REPEATEDLY, yet nobody even brings that up) being constantly grilled the way Bonds has been. But, as a MAJOR caveat, they are also not even close to breaking any long time major records in the sport, while Bonds did just this past year. That has put him in the spotlight more than the others.

He's right on most points, but not the point that steroids are beneficial in anyway. I also don't think they can be likened to surgery. Surgery makes it so that you are able to play without hurting yourself further. Steroids merely increase what you're already capable of (whether or not this actually has an affect on a baseball player's production is unknown). The steroids and such that do work to treat an issue, such as Adam LaRoche taking Ritalin, can steal be used with MLB permission. If you have a legitimate medical reason to be taking banned drugs, you have the ability to get a waiver to continue taking them.
Re: barry mad at hall of fame
Well, humm... after rereading everything, I agree. Actually, both LLP and Arctic Blast are right. Ah well, like I've said before, I'm just sick and tired of the whole steroid issue by this point.
