Rangers Live to Play Another Day
The Rangers beat the Red Sox in Game 3 4-1 to extend the series to a 4th game. The scoring opportunities, they managed only 7 base runners the whole game, were few and far between for the Red Sox and they never managed to capitalize on them when they did arise. Most notably, the had two men on with two out and the tying run at the plate in Kevin Youkilis in the top of the 9th and got nothing out of it. The one run for the Red Sox came on an RBI single by Bill Mueller in the top of the 6th. The Rangers did not have many opportunities themselves, but they managed to capitalize when they did, including a 2 run bomb by David Dellucci in the second inning and clutch RBI's by Hank Blalock and Alfonso Soriano.

The Red Sox defeated the Rangers, 9-7, in Game 4 to advance to the ALCS, where they will play the Tigers. After the Rangers scored 2 in the second, with the opportunity for more, it looked like it might be heading back to Boston for a game 5, but the Red Sox quickly dispensed any thought of that happening with a 7 run 4th inning, which entailed 2 bases loaded walks, a bases loaded double by Jay Payton, a run scoring error and a sac fly. The Rangers made it interesting by scoring one in the 8th and then two more in the bottom of the 9th, but the 7 run inning, combined with two one run innings, was too much for them to overcome.

Advantage: Red Sox. The Red Sox clearly have the better offense, even without Ortiz, they have a great mixture of power, average, speed, and depth. And with Ortiz possibly returning if the series goes 6 or 7 games it could swing the series in the Red Sox favor. The Tigers also have a solid offense, but its hard to be better than the best.

Advantage: This is similar to the starting pitching, in that the Red Sox probably have an advantage in terms of talent, but the Tigers have been more consistent and performed better. The Red Sox bullpen has been quite good, when needed, this postseason so, but the Tigers has been good all season. I'm going to call this one a push.
This is going to be a close, tight series that could easily go 6 or 7 games. However, the bullpen and starting pitching are so close that that becomes a wash, in my opinion, which brings it down the offense, where the Red Sox have a clear advantage. My prediction is the Red Sox in 6.

Sox Drop Game 1
This game was all Tigers as they slammed the Red Sox 9-5. The Tigers got 2 in the second, on an RBI single by Inge and an error in the outfield with a man on 3rd, but the Red Sox quickly countered with 2 of their own in the 3rd. The Red Sox managed to tie the series at one game a piece with a 5-4 win over the Tigers in Game 2. It looked like it was going to be a Tigers blow out after they posted three runs in the first, sparked on an infield single by Nook Logan, but they would manage only one run the remainder of the game, which came on a throwing error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez. The Red Sox rallied to tie it in the 4th with three of their own, on a solo homer by Manny and a two run homer by catcher Jason Varitek, they scored again in the 6th, but the Tigers managed to tie it in their half of the 7th. The Red Sox got the last laugh as they got the final run of the game on an RBI single by Kevin Millar.

The Tigers got it started early. They scored 7 runs in the first four innings, including a four run 3rd on a two run homer by Pudge Rodriguez and RBI base hits from Chris Shelton and Dmitri Young, a two run fourth with both runs coming from a triple off the bat of Chris Shelton, and one run in the second on a sac fly by Pudge Rodriguez, on 10 hits and the game appeared to be over at that point. The Red Sox managed to make it interesting, however. They scored 5 in the top of the 6th, on a bases loaded single, a double, and a single, on 4 hits to make it a 7-6 game, in favor of the Tigers. The Tigers would score in each of their next half innings to make it a 9-6 game. The Red Sox would get one in the top of the 8th, on an RBI single by pinch hitter John Olerud, but the Red Sox would fall short by two runs, losing 9-7.

Re: The 2005 Red Sox and Beyond
The Red Sox took Game 4, to tie up the series at two games a piece, by the score of 4-2. The game was tied at 0 going into the bottom of the third, with the Tigers coming up, until they scored two runs, one on an RBI single and the other on a sac hit. The game would remain 2-0 until the top of the 7th inning when the Red Sox scored 4 runs, on a 2 run single by Kevin Youkilis, an error with a man on 3rd, and an RBI single by Kevin Millar, making the game 4-2 Boston. The Tigers got another run in the bottom of the 8th on a Rondell White homer to make it 4-3. Keith Foulke shut the door in the ninth, however, to give the Red Sox the game and tie the series at two games a piece.

Red Sox Take Game 5 in Blowout
The Red Sox took Game 5 by the score of 13-6. They scored early and often, putting up 5 in the first on an RBI single by Manny Ramirez, a sac fly by John Olerud, and a 3 run homer by Jay Payton, 1 in the third on a solo homer by Manny Ramirez, 6 in the 7th on a 2 run shot by centerfielder Johnny Damon, an RBI single for captain Jason Varitek, and a double by John Olerud, and one more in the 8th on Hanley Ramirez's second sac fly of the game. Despite the apparent blowout the Tigers did manage to make it interesting, at one point. They scored 5 in the 5th to, at the time, knot the game up at 6 a piece. The Red Sox managed to get to the bullpen however and put the game out of reach with their 6 run 7th. The Red Sox now head home leading the series 3-2 with post season veteran Curt Schilling slated for the Game 6 start.

Red Sox Punch Ticket to Second Straight World Series!
The Red Sox took Game 6, again in a blowout, 13-6 to advance to their second World Series in as many years; giving them the opportunity to win back-to-back World Series after not winning a single one for nearly NINE decades.
The Red Sox started the game quickly by scoring one run in each of the first two innings, the first on an RBI single and the second on an RBI single by Varitek to score John Olerud. They would be trailing after the second, however, as the Tigers managed to plate 3 in the inning, on an RBI single from Pudge Rodriguez and an RBI double by Ramon Martinez, making the score 3-2 Tigers after 2. They would go into the bottom of the 5th trailing 5-2, but the Red Sox would drive in 2 in the inning on a sac fly, by Bill Mueller, and an RBI single, by John Olerus, to make it 5-4 in favor of the Tigers. They scored one run again in the 6th to tie it, but the Tigers would come back to take the one run lead again in the top of the 7th. The Red Sox went into the bottom of the 7th trailing by one, until Gabe Kapler double in John Mabry to tie the game. The Red Sox would blow it open in the 8th, however, scoring 6 runs on 4 hits in the inning. The inning would all but guarantee the Red Sox the victory, and they did indeed win by a final score of 12-6.

P.S. - Mabry was in there because Payton got a 15 day injury after Game 5 so I had to sign someone to stick in Payton's old position. I meant to write a story about it but I forgot to because these ALCS games have actually been done for about a week now, I just haven't had the time to write about them. I haven't played the World Series out yet, however, so that remains to be seen :).
