New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
I'd like to suggest adding a forum for the posts that currently go in Baseball Mogul: General Discussion that showcase players, interesting games, records, etc. and keeping General Discussion for actual game issues that don't fit in Bug Reports or Suggestions & AI.
I'd even offer to clean up the current General Discussion forum by moving all currently existing posts of that nature to the newly created forum.
As an example, this is the type of thread that would belong in the new forum and this is something that would stay in General Discussion.

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
nah, I would just put that into dynasties.

I see dynasties as more of...log of a team over time, or continually following one player's career, not a place to post accomplishments or interesting things from a game. you know?

I know, btw: your writing style sometimes compares to ohms ;)
lol
If Dee would to implement this, It might be a waste of time, I don't think many people would use it.

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
Well, it's mostly just to clean up the current General Discussion forum a bit. People do post these things. They just currently go in General Discussion. This would give them a specific place to go, and those that are posted into General Discussion would just get moved to this forum. If anything, it might actually increase the number of people who post such things, as there currently isn't anywhere that says "Post some interesting things from your game here" or what have you.
I don't think it'd be a waste of time...because no time is really being wasted (well, except for mine, if I were to browse general discussion and move threads to the new forum, but really, I have so much free time...I'd be happy to waste it!). It takes a minutes or so to add a new forum.

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
I remember a time when there was one forum for each NFL, NBA and MLB team...
We don't need to go into that direction, simplier the better.

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
Maybe keeping General Discussions one forum and maybe a subforum/ or regular forum called General Questions....hmm
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
I agree. I've thought about this myself a couple of times in the past, but I've just never taken the time to suggest it.
Making it (the... Showcase? forum) a sub-forum of General Discussions, rather than a main sub-forum off of Baseball Mogul is a good idea though.
Hows that for a name, btw? Baseball Mogul:General Discussions:Showcase
:)

That's odd. I see a big contrast in ohms and hgms writing styles, but w/e
Also, boomboom seems to be on target with backing up his views on this. No need to fix what isn't broken.

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
I like it. I'd call it General Chaos though. More appropriate IMO.
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
General Chaos....that seems to be most threads in general discussion and sports talk anyways. :D
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
I think that General discussion should be maybe on forum where you can post anything about BM, or generally talk about your teams/players
While maybe a subforum called General Questions.
I think you guys are thinking a little too hard. ;)
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
any who gets ejected from
General Chaos should wind up at
Corporal Punishment or Private Parts.
either works for me

Yeah, I should've said that I think it should be a subforum rather than its own forum. And I think that the "showcases" name is great, and that it should be the subforum, not "general questions." :)

Yep, I'd just say the other way around. General Discussion is for anything about Baseball Mogul that doesn't fit into Bug Reports or Suggestions and AI, with a subforum called "Showcases" for all players, games, events, etc.

Nah, I would do it General Discussion and with General Questions as a subforum :)
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
Just curious as to why? The "general questions" make up the majority of the posts in General Discussions...and what do you do with the threads that aren't really "questions" but aren't "showcases" either? The main forum would have those and the "showcases" and questions would go in a subforum which just seems awkward to me.
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
because nobody would use a showcase forum. To show off they edited a player, that would be dave's favorite forum ;)
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
The only pure way of doing it is by posting BMO players...not bm2k8 players.
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
Well, I don't think we have to make it "pure." People post both "pure" and "impure" "showcases" right now in General Discussions. This would just create a subforum where those posts would go, and keep the main forum for game issues that don't fit into the other forums.
People use General Discussions as a way to post "showcases" now so I don't see why they wouldn't use a subforum.

I think I got your point Houston. If you want we can debate this :)
or maybe what you think is always correct. ;)

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
I'm just curious as to why you think it should be the other way around. It just doesn't make much sense to me. When you take the three main types of threads in General Discussions - "showcases", help questions, and general discussions on aspects of the game - the "showcases" seem like the odd-man out, so it'd seem strange to remove the help questions from the main forum, ya know? In addition, the "showcase" threads make up the lowest percentage of the threads, and the help questions make up the highest percentage, it seems strange to move the most common type of thread into a subforum, while leaving the least common type of thread in the main forum.

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
I have stated it above. I don't think people really will enjoy when they say,
Joe Blow hit 1200 homeruns, 5000 hits, 1000 doubles, and 1200 triples...he had a lifetime OPS of 2.000
Oh, yes he played from age 12-45.
That kind of stuff is what people will post. I think the intention is good, but we don't need to clean up the forum, heck we could just have all the moderators give up there moderator powers and the forums would be fine.
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
Well, I think it would help. It's fun to see the accomplishments people get, but their posts get buried by all of the repeated questions. Although, maybe you could add a sticky to the top. Like a FAQ.
-
Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
But... Some people do enjoy doing that now. HGM's suggestion just gives them a place to do it, is all.
As for the moderators comment, I doubt it. I've seen actual unmoderated forums before. Their quite often impossible to use.
The fact that there's a perception that the forums are taking care of themselves is certainly nice to hear though. I put quite a bit of effort into being as unobtrusive as possible. Thanks!
:)

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
Actually, it might make more organizational sense to put the sub-forum in the Dynasties forum...

I don't think you would make a good moderator. Why do you want to become one. We have no need for anymore.

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
I just like having power, you know? Plus I'd get more respect, which I don't have. :( And you're insulting me now, boomboom.

People already post that stuff randomly on and off though. I don't think a subforum for "showcases" would cause anymore people to do than already do. If anything, we can make a rule that only non-editted players can be posted, and anything that is obviously editted will be deleted.

Not necessarily...

Re: New Forum Suggestion - Split General Discussions Into Two
More people would probably post their players and/or team accomplishments if there were a dedicated place for it, actually.
And to be honest, I could care less if the players are edited or not. It's still fun to see, occasionally.
Besides, people always ask for screenshots and whatnot when new versions come out.

Houston, I'm amazed that you would bar edited posts...apart from the strictures of our English teachers ("Revise...revise...revise your writings!"), I believe that many a post would be far more attractive to read; less likely to inflame; garner more respect for the author's effort to improve his stuff; were that author to take a sober second (and 3rd) look at what he hath wrought.
I, myself, invariably edit my posts, if only to dunk in my teas, and cross my eyes. To those who dislike what I, eventually, do turn out, I can only say "You shoulda seen my first draft!"

Seconded. The forums don't need any more "work" right now.
I would miss the x-ray vision option if I had to give up my powers though....... :(
