Not good for the PBP images but......
Here's some of the unusables I've found in my searches for ballpark images.

I have used images based off those, mainly because there's virtually nothing else available.
Home plate doesn't have to be on the bottom but it helps.

Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
I just ordered three books on the historical ballparks off of Amazon. (with pictures) I got a sickness......

I try not to be, but I get obsessive on these things. ;) For my sets I want both foul poles (or very, very close to that) and a home plate, and in the correct positions. :o

Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
Nice pics. I enjoy seeing the old parks.
-
Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
a skilled photo shopper probably could rotate the first pic to the correct position for you Robin...

Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
I thought about trying it myself. There's a lot of work on that one though. I'm hoping instead that there's a good shot in one of the three books I ordered. ;) Lazy. :o

I know, that's about the first thing I noticed as well. Crazy, huh?

Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
Great photos. I wonder what that structure is in the Forbes Field photo? It looks like they took some armory and coverted it into a ballpark.
Also, the Forbes Field I recall had a city park beyond the outfield fence that also had some baseball fields. This photo looks like there are some large buildings behind the outfield fence. Perhaps those building burned down or were torn down or perhaps it is an optical illusion and the buildings are futher away than they appear.
Thanks for sharing them.

When I get home I'll check my copy of Green Cathedrals* to see if it says anything about that.
*This is the main source I used when compiling the stadium database.

Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
That thing in CF could be a batting cage, depending on how old the picture is.

Yep, I remember of times when they would set up a batting cage in deep center field during a game (sorry tales of this, I'm not that old), but I can't recall which field it was to be able to say with certainty it was Forbes or not. But that did in fact happen IRL.

Some more pics.
1911 Highlanders postcard.
Torre and Oh on a Japanese exhibition tour.
Sportsmans Park.
Polo Grounds (check out the cars, and where they're parked!).
Another Polo Grounds. This from 1913.
You can really see the development going on in NYC in the last two.

Two interesting rings as well.

Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
I would love to have that Brooklyn Ring :)

Yeah, I was just thinking the EXACT same thing. That is cool, and my mom is a Dodger fan from when they were in Brooklyn. I would pay for that ring to give my mom.

Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
Multiple millions of dollars, at least...
-
Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
Only about 32 player rings in existence from the Brooklyn days. 1955 was the only World Series win for them.
-
Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
Have any WS rings ever actually been sold? (Let alone Brooklyn Dodgers rings)
...Estate sales are a possibility, I guess.
-
Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
Yes, but some teams, and I think that the Yankees are the main team, have the right of first refusal when one is going to be sold.

Green Cathedrals indicates that the batting cage at Forbes was moved from behind Home to deep CF in 1925.

Re: Not good for the PBP images but......
Interesting. Can you imagine a modern team trying to use the grassy knoll as seating?
lol
