Ignore is a useful function. However, I feel it should also not let me see when people quote someone I am ignoring.
It's always been that way. I don't know if the vBulletin people could even fix this if they wanted to, to be honest. However, they have their own forum (imagine that! ;)) at: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/
It'd probably be best to take up the issue with them, and then maybe they'll add something to censor quotes from people the current users ignore list or something.
Thanks
Yeah, I know you can't see this, but that's impossible to do, as all a "quote" is is something put between the quote tags. Unless you use the actual quote button and link to a post, VBulletin has no idea where the quoted text came from.
what does it matter?? if you don't want to talk or interact with someone then just don't...*shrug*
Because pretty much everything HGM says and the way he says it infuriates me, and I when I ignore a troll, I don't want to see ANYTHING from said troll.
lol, and i almost didn't come to this thread
Houston isn't a troll... He is very helpful on the boards especially to new users. I think the ignore feature is stupid. (can't we all get along) maybe some people take things so personal...and they can't think for themselves only to have a position that is opposite of there foe. That itself is retarted.
Yeah, I've disagreed with boomboom on issues as well, but he just responds and debates civilly without getting so worked up over it. There's no reason we can't disagree, debate back and forth, and not rip each others heads off. Having a different opinion and debating it doesn't make someone a troll.
Awesome use of pulling a quote that has no bearing on anything you said in order to merely try to tick off a member by a mod. Bravo. Helpful? Are you kidding yourself or me?
You put in a personal attack at the end of your little post that made well about as much literary sense as something HGM would post. Of course, the real answer to why HGM is a troll is in his personal attacks and arrogance, but hey, who cares about accuracy? Right?
Like I said earlier, before this genius posted, ignore is useful for diffusing situations, and all in all a great tool provided by people say, 10 to 12 times as smart as mr boomboom, and I feel he has no right to attack something merely because he doesn't understand it or its use. (Sort of like HGM.)
Take things personal? He called people densing and stupid and etc etc. Is there any other way to take it?
All in all, great job at aligning yourself with someone of the same calibre as yourself, and great attempt to troll. Your should be commended. Oh wait, no. You should be condemned.
Have a nice day.
And if the rumour that Houston GM somehow became a mod is true, well that makes about as much sense as tits on a boarhog. Seriously. The biggest nutcase and potty mouth (not to mention occassionally unintelligible) on the board being a moderator? Whoever made that call needs to lay off the drugs and reevaluate things when they sober up.
Oh, and if anyone is retarted (sic), it is because they have problems with there (sic) mind and body, and it should not be used as a putdown, boomboom. (Especially by someone who can barely use correct grammar better than my 5 year old son.)
Dense, yes. Stupid, no. When I have to repeat myself 10 times, and you still tell me I'm saying something that I'm not, that's being dense.Quote:

You sure do a good job of keeping the personal insults flying though, now accusing Clay of doing drugs and insulting boomboom's intelligence.
I merely reported the fact of what he said - if he doesn't want to look like a *****, perhaps he should take better care before he posts.
And perhaps ohms was correct in another thread when he said perhaps the dense one is the one who can't properly communicate his thoughts to the board members and keeps getting 'misunderstood'. (Hey, ohms probably meant you!)
When I have to repeatedly say the same thing over and over again, something which is very simple and clear ("It is a fact that there is a high correlation every year, not that there is a perfect correlation.") and I still get told that somehow I'm contradicting myself with that one statement, I'm not the one being dense.
Take up it with the person who said it then. However, let it be known that when you 'say the same thing over and over', when we obviously can't make heads or tails of the gibberish you post, perhaps you should try again a different way. Also, no offense, but nothing you ever post is 'very simple and clear', because of your lack of communication skills.
In fact, the only thing you HAVE made clear is that you insist on calling people, 'dense'. I find it very disturbing that we have a moderator on this board who insists on insult flinging.
Perhaps you should work on your communication skills before you go around flinging insults. I say you should, with a little effort, be on par with the average board member in a few years. Note that I am not the only one who has noticed your poor sentence construction, use of terms, and spelling. This is not a personal attack, but instead a friendly suggestion.
I did take him off pending no more insults.
Right.
"It is a fact that there is a high correlation every year"
is extremely clear.
I made the "dense" comment prior to becoming a moderator. I'm not insulting anybody's intelligence. In fact, I made it clear that it seems to me as though it was just being done on purpose in an effort to frustrate me, not because whoever it may be is actually dense. I have met very few people on these boards that aren't intelligent.Quote:

I often do multiple things at once. I have a very busy life outside of the Internet, so I often have other things on my mind. Forgive me for not paying 100% perfect attention to my sentence construction.Quote:

And saying that it seems to me that people are just being dense on purpose is a farcry as an insult from the insults you've slung at me, as well as the bolded statement above.
I do, in fact, have fine communication skills, and fine writing skills. You don't go through high school on the honor roll by being an idiot. You don't get a job working at a lawyer's office if you have a lack of communication skills. You don't get into the highest level English class in college without knowledge of English. You don't get a full academic scholarship to college by being stupid.
It appears as though he's unignored me.Quote:

I explained a bit to robinhoodnik in a PM the other day. Here it is:
I don't harbor any ill will towards you, slowrx7, or anybody else I debate with. No matter how heated debates I participate in get, it isn't until I start getting insulted or degraded that I start getting extremely frustrated and might throw a slight insult back. No matter what, I try to keep insulting to a bare minimum, if at all, and any insults I do use, I make sure not to be too harsh, like calling someone a "****ing fruitcake."Quote:
And by the way, no hard feelings between us or anything. I'm just a strong debater and stand firmly in my beliefs, and harbor no ill feelings towards you for disagreeing.
And I know I've been extra...i don't know the word...lately. I've been going through a lot of stress and **** lately.
Oh goodness, high school honor roll! I hereby recant all statements regarding your education. (/em sarcasm)
I'm not saying it's a huge meaningful accomplishment. But if I really lacked the intelligence you seem to claim, I wouldn't be able to maintain a B+/A average throughout 4 years of high school, and I certainly wouldn't be able to get a full academic scholarship to college.
You are not a strong debater. You merely think you are, which is very dangerous. You assume you always 'win' the argument, and then get frustrated when people are not swayed to your opinion. That is when the insults come flying from you. People that disagree with you are not by nature stupid or dense.
The fact is your are a weak debater and rarely sway anyone. You are a loose cannon on these boards, as am I. The major difference is I admit it and try to take measures to control it. You embrace your 'loose cannoness'.
Some friendly advice - don't simply dismiss anything that cannot be mathematically explained. Who knows, maybe a future Bill James will be able to write a formula that expresses the value of intangibles. Perhaps better performance formulas will be created that don't have major flaws. I am quite positive that in the future sabermetrics will become a valuable tool, but at this time, the people at Baseball Prospectus are not skilled enough to create formulas without major conceptual flaws. You should, before taking their formulas as truth, use what is known as a 'sanity check' to make sure such formulas don't have flawed assumptions, such as 'luck factor' or assuming the pitcher BAA is a 0 value stat.
Think before you fling insults. Take the other opinions and play devils advocate. Until then, you will remain a very weak debater.
I never once said you were stupid, and yes congratulations on the scholarship. However, your education is far from done, and hopefully more life experience will also be part of your continuing education.
No, I don't ever assume I've won anything. Internet debates are basically by nature not able to be won.
I get frustrated when words are put into my mouth. I get frustrated when people blatantly ignore FACTS, which are NOT my opinion. I get frustrated when I get insulted without provoking it.Quote:
and then get frustrated when people are not swayed to your opinion.
Never said they were. In fact, I said that there aren't many people on these boards that I think are stupid. I don't think you are stupid. I don't think FRS is stupid. I don't think robin is stupid. The whole reason we're all here on these forums are due to a game which isn't for a stupid person, but rather something who enjoys thinking and dealing with challenges.Quote:

It's not the disagreeing that frustrates me. It's the continually telling ME what I'm saying, and completely ignoring any clarifications I make.
Not swaying anybody does not mean you are a weak debater. People's opinions are rarely swayed, especially by a forum on the internet. People hold their beliefs and normally don't ever let anything sway them otherwise. That's just the way people are.Quote:
The fact is your are a weak debater and rarely sway anyone.
I guess we'll just have to disagree there. I, as stated above, make sure to try and keep things as civil as possible.Quote:

That's a topic for another thread. Needless to say, I disagree with most of it.Quote:

Same to you.Quote:

Yeah, heh.
Good, we're laughing together.
When you say words are put into your mouth, think about the reason why people msunderstood you. Is it more likely the entirety of the boards fault, or the poster that no one could understand?
In the cases that I'm thinking of, there's no way that it's due to me. I mean, when I say qutie clearly "I think Barry Bonds took steroids" and never once say "I don't think barry Bonds took steroids" and yet am told repeatedly "Your argument has been that Bonds never took steroids"...that's words being put into my mouth that I've never spoken and have actually ONLY said that complete opposite, quite clearly.
just passing through...
How about you answer the question at hand?
Unless you want to stick with the, "It must be that the whole board is dense" defense - I suggest you rethink (think?) the question over before you answer again.
In the situations where I have accused somebody of putting words into my mouth, it is not the entirety of the board's fault, nor is it not being able to understand me. Like I said, in those situations, I have been explicitly clear. It's not the entirety of the boards by any stretch of the imagination.
Right. That wasn't really a definite answer. It was more like a politicians sample response to any hard question. So here is another question(s). Why is it only you that this seems to happen? Are you a target? Or are you just the whiniest member of the board?
I still struggle to see how it can be nobody's fault, yet you through an immature little fit over it happening. Obviously, you wouldn't get upset if you thought no one was at fault. (Or so I would hope.)
Because I'm one of the most active members of the boards? And I post nearly every thread.
Okay. You tell me how it's my fault when I sayQuote:

"I believe that Barry Bonds took steroids."
and I never once say that he didn't take steroids.
And then I'm repeatedly accused of basing my argument on my belief that Bonds did NOT take steroids.
How is that my fault? My statements have been 100% clear and concise that I believe Barry Bonds used steroids, yet I still am told by others that my argument has been that Bonds DIDNT use steroids. That is not POSSIBLY my fault. If you think that's somehow my fault, please explain how that's even possible.
