Can He Beat Pete Rose?

Cal Ripken, Jr.

Cal started his major league career in 1980 and had an impressive first season. He however, did not win the ROY award. Cal played for 21 seasons and just about all of them were played at a very high level.

What is interesting is that even with the numbers that Cal put up, he never won an MVP award. He was able to take home two world championships in his 21 years, winning back to back titles in 1987 and 1988.

Rickey Henderson

Rickey began his career in the year of 1978 for the Oakland Athletics. He was as fast as lightning and had the potential to become the ultimate 5 tool player. Oakland was in dire need of a star and Rickey was poised and ready to give them that player they needed.

Many will say that he played too long, that he should have given up baseball long before he did, and those people would be right. Henderson's last productive year was 1991 when he was age 32. No one is really sure what caused this man 's talents to diminish at such at early age, but they sure did. It was like he hit a brick wall and just forgot how to hit all of the sudden. Most die hard fans will tell you it is because he came up at the age of 19 and played so hard that his body had nothing left by the time he reached his 30's. At age 31 he had already been in the league for 12 years.

Rickey was not able to beat Pete Rose's all time hits record, but he was an outstanding player to say the least.

You really should have played everyone in an equalized stadium and era to be totally fair.

The whole thing is that it isn't about being totally fair. I'm doing this just to see how the different guy's career looks through the eyes of Mogul. You get to see the players play a lot longer normally because you just keep signing them. Some of them never play up to their real life counterpart and some of them play way over their heads. Just look at Rickey for instance. He hit a ton more home runs then he would have ever dreamed to hit in real life.

LOL...yeah I forgot all about this and when the Dethroning Barry thread started it reminded me all about it and how much I enjoyed doing these things.

Joe DiMaggio

Joe was, well, THE MAN to say the least. The Yankee Clipper came up at the age of 18 and burst on to the scene. He was a vital part of the Yankees organization and helped them win many pennants during his years there. He was durable and dependable and was the most consistent player of his time. Joe played with greats like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Pee Wee Reese and many others while he worked his way in to the record books and the hall of fame.

Joe put up some spectacluar numbers and never asked for anything from the people of New York or the Yankees themselves. He played his entire career for New York and he certainly made the most of it. He will go down in history as one of the most talented players to have ever played the game.

Tony Gwynn

Tony wasn't the type of player often thought of as a superstar in his days with the Padres. He never asked for the big money, he never hit a lot of home runs and he wasn't flamboyant and full of himself. He was, however, an outstanding hitter that played at an incredibly high level for many many years.

Tony never won an MVP award, although you could have made an argument for a few years, and he was never fortunate enough to play on a world championship team. He did get his chance to go to the World Series twice in his career.

Tony was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2009 and received an astounding 93% of the vote.

Ted Williams

1937 Was the year that the Ted Williams ERA began in Boston. Ted burst on to the scene impressing just about anyone that saw him play. In 1937 Ted won the rookie of the year award by posting one of the better rookie seasons by any player up until that point. "The Kid" as he was known to most Boston fans, never let up through his entire career. He played with the intensity that no other player could match.

Williams was one of those rare hitters that could hit for both high average and massive power. Twice in his career he hit over 70 home runs in a season. In twenty seasons he failed to hit 20 home runs in just one, his last season, which was cut short due to injury.

I'm not quite sure what is up with that. I have seen some other people post about that issue, but I'm not quite sure what causes it.

Yeah, I was actually quite suprised by the numbers that he put up. I couldn't believe all the home runs. I knew he would have a good career, but I didn't think it would be that good.

I'm working on Ichiro right now, man this guy has been impressive. He is 24 right now and has been playing since he was 18 years old. The guy has yet to have a season where he didn't have 200 hits yet!!

That's Ichiro for you;.

76 HRs for Ted?! Wow, I have never seen that many that early before, very impressive.
