The Tampa Bay Rays were relocated to Washington, giving that city Major League Baseball for the first time since 1971, when the Senators left for Texas. The Rays will be renamed the Senators and remain in the American League East division.

The Florida Marlins decided to stay in Miami, and duly changed their name to the Miami Marlins.

There is a strong rumour that this will be the Brewers' last season in Milwaukee.

For the first time ever, the Expos are favoured to win the World Series. Time will tell whether that predicition pays out though, as time and time again Montreal have failed to live up to lofty expectations.

The 2027 Season

Montreal would get off to a slow start, winning just two of their first nine games, all of which were played on the road. The home opener against the Dodgers saw the Expos spark back into form, winning their next nine games (all at home), with new recruit Christian Taylor knocking in 11 home runs for the month of April.

May saw Montreal rocket to the top of the standings, with an emphatic 20-8 record stamping them as the team to beat in the east division. What was doubly pleasing was that most of the wins were recorded on the road, with only 8 home games during that month.

The Expos weakened their grip on the division during the month of June, dropping games against Miami and Seattle, before being swept on the road against the Angels. By the time their June roadtrips were over, Montreal only had a share of the division lead with Atlanta (45-27)

Much of the success could be attributed to the new starting pitcher Jamie Flanagan. Already a seven-season veteran by the age of 24, the new recruit from the failed Tampa Bay franchise was impressing a lot of people with his 11-1 record.

Starting July with a 46-32 record, Montreal sat poised to recapture the division lead from the Braves. Montreal spoiled an excellent opportunity to do so just before the all-star break, splitting a four game series with Atlanta, before losing a series on the road to Philadelphia.

Christian Taylor provided a highlight for Expos fans at the home run derby at Angels Stadium, winning the competition from Colorado's Christian Winters.

Despite the break, Montreal continued to have trouble putting consecuitive wins together and fell further and further behind the upstart Braves, finishing July eight games behind but holding the valuable wildcard slot by 6.5 games from Houston.

The Expos hit a better vein of form during August, winning 19 games and drawing to within three games of Atlanta. Victims along the way included the Pirates (beaten 31-11 over three days) and the Mets (swept at Shea Stadium).

The division race ebbed and flowed into the month of September, with the Expos and Braves meeting in a decisive series at Turner Field. The Expos won the battle but the Braves ended up winning the war as their win in the third game of the series not only prevented a sweep but preserved their one game lead at the top of the NL East.

The teams met back in Montreal just a week later, with the Braves leading by 1.5 games. Montreal won the first game 11-7 and the second 3-2, taking the division lead on September 24. The 4-0 win the next day gave Montreal a 1.5 game lead with 6 games to play. Despite winning just two of their next six games, the Expos had done enough to stay in the lead and duly clinched the division, only to face the Dodgers, the reigning NL champions and World Champions just two seasons ago.

Making the playoffs two seasons in a row had never been achieved in franchise history, but Expos fans expected their team to build on the achievements of the previous year and go (at least) one better this time around. Their optimism was duly rewarded when Montreal swept the Dodgers, including a 6-1 win at Dodgers Stadium.

Their next meeting was against the other giant of the National League, the Chicago Cubs. Between the Cubs and Dodgers, both teams had won nine of the last 14 NL pennants, and the 110-52 Cubs looked good things to continue the sequence going.

Montreal took out Game 1 4-3 courtesy of a wild pitch in the ninth inning. The Cubs returned the next day to level the series 8-1. The focus moved to Montreal, where the Expos won two of the three games at Stade Andre Dawson, including a resounding 11-1 victory in Game 5. The Expos only had to win one of the next two games at Chicago to advance to their second World Series. This they memorably did, winning Game 6 by four runs, despite a few nervous moments late in the final inning with the bases loaded.

Canada went completely nuts - the Expos were back in the World Series!

2027 World Series Game 1

With the surviving members of the 1980 Montreal Expos watching in the stands, including Dwight Evans (75), Ben Oglivie (78) and Andre Dawson (73), the Expos took to the field against the Los Angeles Angels looking to do something that had eluded them in their long franchise history thus far: win the World Series.

The 2028 Season

Montreal got off to a subdued 11-13 start to the season, which included a sweep series loss against Miami to start the season. By the middle of May, the reigning National League champions had scrapped the bottom of the NL East ladder, with the only positive spark being the continued good play of young pitcher Aaron Lapierre, who was drafted by the Expos in 2026 and presently boasting a 5-1 record.

The beginning of June saw Montreal (24-27) eight games behind division leaders Atlanta (32-20) and heading into an important phase of the season. The players tried to rise to the occasion but could only win 3 of their first 13 games of the month. With the Expos sitting in last place at 35-46, management started to look towards the future, offloading bench player Scot McAnich (92) to the Athletics (for cash) and second baseman David Montgomery (91) and pticher Jeremy Bynum (81) to the Cardinals for second baseman Craig Overy (93).

The changes failed to make any impact on Montreal's record, with the Expos virtually out of contention by the time the All-Star game started. At the end of July, the Expos were seventeen games behind Atlanta and even further behind wildcard holders the Cubs. The losing mentality carried over into August (11-18) and September (8-21, including 11 straight losses) and the Expos had resumed their usual position at the bottom of the table, looking up at even the Marlins, enjoying their first winning season since 2010.

The 2029 Season

The pre-season predicitions appeared to be right on the money when Montreal exploded to a 10-0 start to the season, their best in franchise history, losing their 11th game of the season against the Miami Marlins, the perpetual strugglers of the NL East.

Montreal continued to mow through their opponents, with Christian Taylor hitting an amazing .420 for the month of April as the Expos went to a 20-4 record. Lucas O'Neal was in career-best form, with a 5-0 record and an ERA of 1.52.

The Expos came back towards the field somewhat during May, with a 16-11 record and a six game lead over the Braves. Montreal also created a little slice of history by drafting 18-year old pitcher Betty Jo Fitz with the fifth overall pick of the annual draft, the highest-yet position by a female in Major League Baseball.

May was another successful month for the Expos (18-9, 54-24 overall), which was capped off with a four-game sweep of the Mets, who were having a poor season. The only blight on the record was a loss in a series to Canadian rivals Toronto.

With a nine-game lead by the time the All-Star game in Houston came around, the Expos showed no signs of letting up their frantic pace, including murdering the Rockies in three games (14-8, 11-8, 20-8). With July (20-6) in the books, the Expos started to turn their sights towards a 100-win season, with 110 wins a real possibility.

Remy Swanston exploded as an offensive weapon, being the first player to pass 50 home runs for the season, and going close to toppling Troy Glaus's record of 66 in a season (which the former Rockie hall of fame player achieved in 2007). Christian Taylor achieved his 300th home run and 1000th RBI during the season, and also represented the NL. Ron Blow struck his 400th home run in his 13th season. Lucas O'Neal won the Cy Young award and led the NL in wins and strikeouts (for the fifth time in six season), recording his 2000th strikeout during the season.
