Re: Lou Piniella as Cubs Manager?
as far as Lou, he's good, but i have a hard time saying he's any better than the top 4-5 managers in the game today.
i think girardi needs to be with a team that is full of youngsters that he can mentor, rather than manage. give him a few years to prove himself and then hand him the reigns to a "trying to contend" team.
the managerial path is not much different than the average player's path. start off a backup/part-timer and build into the 155 gamer over a couple years.

He didnt have the talent....TB still doesnt have the talent. Florida has basically done what the best BMO players do. Tank for a few seasons...than all the rookies develop...good strategies...but it alienates the fans.
Tampa Bay will never win anything...also mark my words.

New ownership seems better & I really like their outfield - TB's BIG HUMMUNGUS
problem is pitching Numéro Uno Kazmir fine (even great) but 2 to 5 yikes (thats the main difference) Beinfest is a very good GM;)

Maybe we should put Prior and Wood into a telepod (like the Fly movies) and combine them.
You would have an unstoppable, unhittable, healthy pitcher/fly.
Just hope he doesn't eat chocolate bars on the mound...lol.

Exactly. He didn't have the talent. What's that tell you? That a manager can't magically make a team better. He manages the player he's given, and if they suck, it's not the fault of the manager. If they play good, it's not the fault of the manager.
The media loves to make big hypes about manager's records and what not, but the fact of the matter is, the manager's impact isn't really all that great.

Never win anything? They won like 65 games this year or something. :p
I get what you mean, but still never is a very long time.

The problem is that Lou just doesn't fit the club.
