Re: Now what do you advise me to do NOW ?
I think that there's also an added risk of injury there to a young fireballer, especially looking at Colorado's drought of decent pitchers. I think that had they signed him, they would have rushed him through the system and with a kid like that he probably would overthrow a lot to try and compensate for lack of atmospheric friction. In other words his ball would lose life and he'd probably wreck his arm throwing or snapping too hard.

Well he seems to have done that for "free" instead of having 3 million + 6 years of interest.
But the point is since the late '90's in all Pro-North American sports kids (both HS & College) seem to have a very HIGH MONETARY value of themselves (look at Hochevar last year,NBA hold outs & NFL version )
I can understand guys who have 3 or 4 years Pro pedigree holding out but this seems to be ridiculous

I agree. signing a pro contract has become one of the new "brass rings" of american society in the last 10 years.
Re: Now what do you advise me to do NOW ?
I'm a big fan of making signing bonuses equal to whatever the minimum salary is in MLB that year, if they are drafted on the first day. Second day draftees should get less if anything at all other than a contract. Handing over millions to unproven and untested talent is ridiculous, when there are all-stars getting minimum salary or close to it. I'd be for the same in other sports too.
Re: Now what do you advise me to do NOW ?
If somebody offered me that kind of money at age 18, I'd take it.
Or as Yogi might say, "if you see a fork in the bush, stick your hand in and take it". :D
Re: Now what do you advise me to do NOW ?
Unfortunately this kid has cost himself at least 5 mill no wonder MLB teams are going to Latin america & signing these cheaper, they cause less 'problems' (well as long as they dont get involved in shootings see- Uribe incident)
Re: Now what do you advise me to do NOW ?
well, some clubs are shutting down their Dominican 'schools', saying they aren't getting a good return on their $10mil /shrug

Thats true but other are opening up (Pirates) & looking at the average MLB roster there is a lot of non drafted Latinos...but that 's another story.
Seems that until,as you say,the get the signing bonuses sorted these Kids will play the market - most flagrant recent snobishness I remember was the Eli Manning- San Diego thing & who won ? Eli....
Re: Now what do you advise me to do NOW ?
Yeah and look how that turned out. San Diego is a much better team than the New York Giants at the moment. I find it funny personally. Snobby punk.

Perfect answer ... notice that the 'supposed' 3 rd best quarterback is a Superbowl winner & just has won a game 45 to 7...& he didnt quibble or hold out etc...

The other annoying thing with Eli was Archie going on every d@mned media outlet that he could and telling anyone who'd listen that his little brat punk wasn't really a selfish prima donna.
