Who would you pick as manager of the Yankees if you were Cashman (GM)
Enormous respect for Torre - one of the best managers in the game & can only work with the "broken " toys he is given - it goes to prove, once again that pitching wins in October, & it is not with the Pavanos,Wrights,Karstens & Ponsons you can achieve it.
However on a personal note - who cares ? Its the yankees...
@FRS: your team didn't even make the playoffs, so I wouldn't talk to much...
:p
anyway yea, Torre is a good manager. The Yanks always have great bats, but they never seem to realise that they need a couple of real Ace pitchers until it's too late. I say fire Steinbrenner.
lol
Torre has won 4 ws and won the division every year he has been there in any other city he'd have a street and a park named after him. but new york.......
Yea I noticed .... but Talk is cheap & that's all I can do since August ;)
Leave Steinbrenner where he is - his payroll ,his club (& his disaster:D ) .
I dont like him but there are 2 things you can say about him (compared with other multi million dollar owners) is that he is passionate for HIS team he & he is willing to put the bucks on the table when asked to do so ...
I don't have a dog in this hunt but my two cents says that Torre is a good guy and a good manager from what I know of him. What I can't figure out is why he would want to stay in NY and work for Steinbrenner. Surely it's not the money, he should have enough of that by now. Yes I know that the Yankees are perennial contenders for the WS but I would think that there are other good franchises who would like to have Torre if he's interested, and he wouldn't have to put up with Steinbrenner's ****. If I was Pinella I wouldn't want the job either. Let a younger guy like Mattingly deal with it.
Despite the huge payroll, the Yankees still rake in the profits, or so I am told. Would GS be so willing to spend megabucks if that were not the case? Maybe, maybe not.Quote:

One thing is clear.
If the Yanks don't win it all in 2007, both Torre and Cashman will be gone.
I can't really say if Pinella is the right guy either though.
I think they need someone with less baggage that is not a whiner like Pinella was for the last decade.
Maybe another former Yankee player is waiting in the wings.
Could you imagine Reggie managing them? lol.
They would have a Billy Martin day and Reggie could lay a beating on the all bobbleheads in Yankee Stadium.
The Sultan
It's not Joe Torre's fault they lost. When the team barely hits, the manager can't magically make the team win.
I personally don't think there is one manager in the league that would do a better job with these guys than Torre. Guys like Posada and Jeter have known Torre for a decade now and I just can't see any other manager getting more out of them as Joe can. Like Houston said, its not his fault the big bats slumber in October.
Well he is going to be there next year the question is who will be joining him - I cant see Steinbrenner saying to Cashman "well we nearly one so keep them together..."
Big changes especially in the Pitching department look out Wright & Pavano here come Zito,Schmidt & Matzusaka...:(
well, Cashman has aparently been able to wrestle away a significant amount of decision making from George over the last few seasons. If anyone goes, it'll be Cashman. Of course, from what i've seen from George if he actually fires Cashman then a whole lotta other people will be gone at the same time or shortly afterwords.
With Lidle gone now, there's going to be some significant changes in the Yankees bullpen anyway.
