True - depends who..... with the Angels could send them Santana,Figgins (plug him in at 3B) & another prospect or two ,say ,McPherson (who apparently the Angels are nt counting on) & Mathis.Solves THE depth at 3B & gets them what they need a Young resiliant starter & a back-up ready to go at catcher

A-Rod's "fan problems" won't be nearly as played up if he played somewhere besides New York City.

I'd think not pulling the trigger and having an MVP at 3rd is a pretty good strength. I also think any team would be willing to give him a chance to do well in the postseason rather than go home at the end of September and not make it -- and certainly his regular seasons would help you get to the playoffs provided you don't trade away most of your team for him.

Why would the Angels give up so much for someone who's supposedly such a head case? That deal would create more holes than it would fill for them. It's interesting how on the one hand, people talk down so much about Rodriguez and then expect a massive return in a trade for him. Doesn't seem to line up.

But anyway, since all this A-Rod talk doesn't really matter here in WI ;), over at Fire Joe Morgan they were ripping on a blog that said the Astros should not try to trade for A-Rod. I thought it was kind of funny and also liked the long Joe Sheehan quote near the end.

I thinK A-Rod is a very good player (a bit ego-centric) but still outstanding;

However in his 2 year tenure at the Yankees Brenner's team are 0 for 2 & he has hit abysmally (post season wise but he wasnt the only one ofcourse);

I believe outside of that atmosphere he will produce better results.In light of the actual cost (16m$) he is very affordable for larger clubs & th Angels owner Moreno has PLEDGED he will sign a big bat.

As you say the Yankees wont give him away because of his ability & still is in his prime so I concluded that the Angels (at the moment) are the best fit - the guys mentioned apart from Santana are expendable to the Angels & Santana would be the "jewel" of the trade for the Yankees & their wooful starting depth.**

The Astros I dont know if they have the money or the talent to go after him (Oswalt & Ensberg maybe ?) but with the loss of Pettitte & Clemens to free
agency it would seem highly unlikely but then again I m not Purpura am I

Given that the Phillies love to give players to the Yankees for nothing, they should try to trade him for Howard, Utley, Rollins, and Hamels. Then again, I think you have to be over 30 to play for the Yankees.

I think A-Rod needs to play SS for any team that picks him up. The Angels make sense (Cabrera is 31 AND played for the Red Sox), but the Dodgers don't as I would rather have Furcal at 8 and put the extra 2-4 million (given the Yankees would chip in 4-6 mil, which seems to be the only way he would move) somewhere else.

I'm sure Steinbrenner would like to deal him straight up for Bonds. I wouldn't mind that because the Yankees seem like a perfect fit for a cowardly cheat like Bonds. Not that I dislike the Yankees ... ;)

And Mussina's been there for 6 and the Yankees are 0 for 6....People are placing way too much blame on A-Rod. It's not Mussina's fault either. It's not one player's fault.

And they can jointly call out A-Rod and be cheered for it ;). I think they should stick Sheffield back at third and see if he can't field lower than .900 again.

Anything is possible - but the way the off season will turn out will depend unfortunately more on Cashman than Steinbrenner:(

Look at hemgoin after Pitchin,pithing & possibly pitching

Zito,Schmidt & anyone else who will pitch better than Lidle & co....

It would nt be a Surpise that Pettitte ends up back in the jungle with a 12million$ contract:eek:

How has Cashman avoided blame in all this? All of the big-money signings have amounted to zip and everyone from Torre on down gets the finger pointed at them. Where's Cashman in all this?

Because Cashman upto this Season was forced by the "Boss" to sign X,Y,Z etc

Only this season has he had "full reigns" & when you already have a 200m$ club with the supposed best players in the league well its not your fault if THEY "screw" up

Also Cashman actually did a fine job of trading/moving players this year - it was his signing of Abreu/lidle which ensured that the Yankees won the AL East - also Cashman was preponderant on the signing of phemon "Hughes" etc

So to resumé - Steinbrenner upto now signed the Johnson's,Giambi's & especially Sheffield but Cashman got Damon,Abreu etc & Torre well lost to the Tigers - so the flak was on Torre & the high roller players

Torre chooses the players & the players play but a manager DOES make the decisions on batting order,player substitution etc - like Melky on the bench with a "injured" Matsui in the outfield,A-Rod 6th then 8th & Torre chose to send out Wright to start

Torre also is the "spiritual" leader of the team his role is to motivate & send out his players in the best frame of mind to win - he failed in this case

So Torre although ,not the one who physically lost the game was a contributor to the failure of the team because of the above factors & INACTIONS
