Personally I DONT think he is a good manager - I also think beinfest & his crew are good - Girardi was in a no lose situation,in my eyes,if the Marlins did bad well it was because he had a poor roster if he did well he would be as stud but Beinfests ' moves got him his rotation (either thru the draft or the great off season moves),ditto for the bullpen & the lineup .Quote:

I'm sure he'd do a passable job with the Cubs or wherever he ends up. Whatever the real story with the firing, I think he's still a pretty classy guy. So if he ends up in Chicago, good luck to them, so long as the Brewers finish at least a game ahead of them every year ;).
I like the Brewers roster a lot (except the outfield unit which is a disaster) but the infield is good especially Bill Hall who would be a"star" if he were in a media team -how many guys do you know hit .290 ~30 HRs & can well at SS/2B/3B?Quote:

For other reasons, let's examine Dusty Baker's flaws. Dusty decided that players peak from 32-36 or later and that walks are a bad thing. It's also proven fact that players peak at or around 27 and then drop off from there (slightly for a few years and then drastically). The Cubs should keep 7 of their 8 regulars and Zambrano. I don't think they need to do too much with the bullpen. It's good as it is. The Cubs basically have a playoff team already and Dusty Baker blew it.
You can't put just anybody in control of a team of rookies and contend. With Girardi, the Marlins would be a favorite to win the World Series next season, but without him they might win about 85 games and lose the wild card race. When Girardi got fired, the Marlins fans (all 6,000 of them) were pissed off. Of course, the Marlins owner is an idiot as everybody should know by now (after he single-handedly killed baseball interest in Montreal and got the Expos moved to Washington and is now killing interest in the Marlins). You cannot blame Girardi for the situation that got him fired, at all. You can only place the full blame on the owner. He'll be out of baseball within the next 3 years and the Marlins (probably in Portland or Los Vegas) will win a World Series when their talent fully matures.
Looks like Piniella has the inside track especially after pulling himself out of the running for the Giants

I'll confess that I'm not in a position to comment of Cedeno's defense, but even if he's the second coming as Ozzie defensively, I'm not sure you can play a guy every day who provides that little offense, even at short. Thirty years ago, when even strong offensive teams might score 650 runs a season, yeah I guess, but now, with all the increase in scoring, probably not. On the other hand, he's 23, so his hitting may still improve quite a bit.Quote:
