I don't see Barry Bonds passing Hank Aaron. Right now, Barry's legs are shot. I have my own theories about why Barry's body is breaking down, but I believe that you have to have leg strength to hit: "you hit with your whole body" as they say. When the legs go -- and they go, sooner or later -- then your career goes soon after.
The rumor is that Barry will go to the American League where he can be a designated hitter, but I don't think it will help him that much. I can see him ending his career a few years from now after the Yankees or Angels cast him aside, hanging on with some lower level American League team taking less and less money to justify a few more remaining at bats to crawl closer to Hank's record, but not getting there.

I don't think that the Yankees would touch him with Bostons money. The last thing they want right now is another Balco client on their roster. Barry'd be killed in the New York media and by the fans. No way he goes to the Yanks, they wont do it.
I dont think Barry honestly cares if he breaks it or not, and I doubt he will play for another team. This is probably his last year.
No way! Bonds is done after this year.
He sounds like he wants to go to the A.L. and DH for a while.
I don't think he has 40+ more home runs in him. Homers 715-754 don't mean all that much - he's still "second to Aaron" - so there's no real point to going further if 756 is out of reach.
I imagine he has a short list of teams he would play for (I don't see him going to Kansas City or Tampa Bay just to possibly break the record) so who would take him of the teams that would actually go to?
Really only a team that needed to put butts in seats but not a bad team. Someone like Seattle maybe or Baltimore. A team that has some money, and will not win for a few seasons or more. Seattle seems like a fit just because of the west coast location and money. Baltimore because of the history that Angelos has created since buying the O's of overpaying anyone and everyone he can get a contract to. I'm not counting out the Angels either though. They have the cash and location. Teams that I don't think will touch him (and could afford him) are New York, Boston, Chicago and Texas. Texas has too much young talent to go out and waste a roster spot on him, also why screw up the young guys with a player like Bonds? Chicago has no need of him and Boston would (at least I hope) never even consider him. He'd be booed out of town at the airport. NY also would not want his recent history either. Too much in common with Giambi and Sheff.
Would Bonds be that big of a draw for the home team? I think he would improve the attendance of the road teams (along with disposable syringe sales) but not the home team. Besides, what group of fans would be so gullible as to want him to go there?Quote:

IMO, it's a moot point. I do not see how he can survive the rest of this season, let alone make it through and be okay for yet another go around (or two).
I agree...DH would be the perfect role for Bonds...WOULD be...but hitting .224 leaves means the perfect spot for him is a retirement home :p
Really the only thing that I hope he ever passes again is gas.:p
You are right...I don't want to hear of him so much as passing a kidney stone.Quote:

Bonds will assess his condition and numbers at the end of 2006, and probably play another full season as-is. Another assessment at the end of 2007 may warrant a switch to DH. He will be quite a bit under 40 homers short at the end of '06. His great work ethic, as applied to playing and training, will keep him fit to play, and seeing the record so close in the horizon, will further hone his focus. If he didn't care, he would quit today. I see Bonds passing Aaron, even if he has another injury related layoff.

I couldn't agree more.
That is one great piece of literature.:)
:mad:His great work ethic!?! He is the anti christ when it comes to work ethic. Trust me I hate the Yankees and hate giving any of their players props but u want work ethic u go and watch Jeter's work ethic, go to houstin and check out the Rockets work ethic, go to St Louis and Check out Pujols work ethic. Griffey in his hayday even. That is work ethic; trying your hardest and trying to better yourself NATURLY. Just when baseball had rightened itself after the strike in '94 Sosa, Griffey, and McGuire had us all on the edge of out seats glued to their every at bat. Then we find out that 2 of the 3 were cheaters. 3 years later the man everyone hates goes and breaks the record again. Every single player should be tested every month. MLB had money up the yingyang and refuses to fix itself. The NFL had a steriod problem and said "We have to rectify the situation." and they did. Unfortunatly, what this sport needs is a lockout by the owners.Quote:

It is 1 of the things that got this country through the depression in the early '30's. And now it is being drawn through the mud by these self indulgent wenies, who every year cry about how its not fair and they need more money. I hope tomorrw Bonds wakes up and cant get out of bed because he has distroyed his knees just like he has helped distroy baseball. Im not saying he is the only 1 by any means of the imagination, but he is a big culprit. Giambi made the same mistake but at least he admited it like a man and took his lumps as he deserved, And personaly no matter what he does for the rest of his career, say hit 500 HR or break some record, he should be banned too from the HOF. If Pete Rose can be banned from the HOF for something he didn't even do until after he retired as a player, than y cant Bonds, Sheffield, Giambi, Sosa, Mcguire, and any, and all others be banned?
Now that I rambled and put u all to sleep, im gonna go do the same myself.

This post is either an attempt at baiting others or a piece of sarcasm right? Although it would take nerves of steel to repeatedly inject yourself with chemicals that distort your features and ruin your credibility, reputation, and possibly organs while leading you to a premature death but not before leaving you in excruciating pain for years after you've destroyed joints and tendons that may have to be patched together (possibly with cadaver donantions) by doctors in multiple surgeries and endless rehabilitation therapy. But who am I to judge?:rolleyes:Quote:

and you all know that he'll be willing to play another season and get paid, despite what he's said.
Of course, he's aparently got another year on his contract with SF (right? 5-years, starting in 2002?) so who knows. they didn't deal him...
*shrug*
Who Keeps bumping old polls?????:mad::mad::mad:
Wow, who would ever think bonds would pass aaron.
