I certainly would prefer the tradition format myself, but if it's possible, I'd think giving players the option would be the best solution.

There's also a tab where you can change a player's position within the game. But you might not get the results you want with Babe Ruth that way.

Yeah, in your example, Ozzie going from a 99 to a 98 is probably just your scouting system slightly changing its opinion on him; it won't effect his actual performance. Even with very good scouting, the rating you see can be off by a bit; as Swampdog points out, with poor scouting the rating can be off considerably. Of course, a player's actual, true rating can change, too. In fact, pretty much every player's rating will change over time, except maybe for some guys who aren't even good...

Even if you start in 2019, it looks like draft picks will sign major league contracts (for the minimum, thankfully) instead of minor league contracts. It doesn't hurt as much in 2019 starts as in historic starts, because a few extra contracts for the major league minimum aren't going to hurt as much.

I checked the stats of several of the best-hitting pitchers of the last 40 years on baseball reference, and the only one I found who was ever intentionally walked was Don Robinson, who had 1 IBB. So obviously a pitcher having an IBB should be an incredibly rare thing. But if it happens in-game, it's hard to tell if that's an actual bug or just a poor decision by the AI. Though clearly anyone having an IBB but no BB's is a bug.
